Japara cotton was originally developed in the mid-19th century and it is used for model sail cloth because its original purpose was to create strong sailcloth for full-sized ships, and it has since been adapted for model applications.It is a durable, tightly woven cotton tightly woven cotton fabric that is impregnated with a paraffin-based wax, giving it a durable texture and a slightly silky feel. It can be dyed with coffee or tea to achieve the desired aged or antique look like traditional canvas and is suitable for creating realistic-looking sails for model ships. It is it’s generally considered hard-wearing.
