The Tea Clipper Ship “Cutty Sark” was built in 1869 at Dumbarton, Scotland.
Length 85.34m, Breadth 10.97m, Draught 6.4m, Displacement 2,133 tons.
Built to transport tea from China for the China tea trade.
She was designed by Hercules Linton, whose ambition it was to outstrip the Thermopylae, the fastest ship of the times.
In the end, clippers lost out to steamships that could pass through the recently opened Suez Canal and deliver goods more reliably. Used for the Australian wool trade and sold in 1895 to a Portuguese company, returning to the UK in 1923.
In 1954, “Cutty Sark” was restored and moved to a custom-built dry-dock and displayed at Greenwich, London.
New wood kit features single plank-on-bulkhead construction with pre-cut wooden parts.
Six large sheets of plans, 36 page book containing 120 color photos of every phase of construction.
